Roger Mooking, a globally renowned celebrity chef, has built a culinary empire across North America, boasting a presence in restaurants, television, books, and beyond. However, his journey as a versatile artist commenced in the world of groundbreaking rap. As a solo artist and a founding member of groups like Maximum Definitive and Bass is Base, he played a pivotal role in shaping Canada’s contemporary Hip Hop scene. Hailing from Trinidad but raised in Canada, Roger Mooking has a prolific discography with five albums to his name, including a Juno award and multiple award nominations.
In celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary, Roger presents “SOUNDBITES,” his sixth studio album. The album draws inspiration from the intriguing fact that the average human attention span clocks in at a mere 8.25 seconds. “SOUNDBITES” is a lyrical masterpiece consisting of transient tracks that celebrate music, community, creativity, chaos, and delve into how time molds and defines the world, particularly from a Black perspective. These tracks are ingeniously divided into three segments, mirroring the stages of life: the Learning, the Living, and the Leaving. Notably, “SOUNDBITES” also serves as the soundtrack for Roger’s upcoming book, “Curious Sounds: A Dialogue in Three Movements,” set to release on Tuesday, October 24th.
