Award-winning New Zealand singer, songwriter, and producer Aroly Tariq is back with a visually captivating new music video for her single, “Stay A While”. The track is the latest release from her self-produced EP, Bluetooth Breakdown, and is now available to watch on YouTube.
Aroly describes “Stay A While” as her modern-day take on a Roy Orbison-style love song, blending her signature minimalist art-pop style with traditional sensibilities:
“I wanted to create a Roy Orbison-esque old-timey song in my own way when I made this. The production is sample-based, as most of my tracks are, but I think this song came out sounding quite traditional.”
The song marks a personal milestone for Aroly, who steps into new lyrical territory by embracing love songs with vulnerability and charm.
“I never wrote love songs in the past because I felt it was too embarrassing to show myself like that, but now I think writing love songs can be a sweet departure from the blows and lows. This song is about loving someone in big-time ways, but not in a clingy way. In a shy guy way but also your number one fan way. Down for the ride but also ride or die. Casually obsessed, I guess.”
The animated video for “Stay A While” is a testament to Aroly’s creative versatility. As a talented visual artist, she continues to conceptualize and direct her own music videos, blending her musical and visual artistry into a cohesive experience.
Bluetooth Breakdown, hailed as a genre-defying collection, seamlessly intertwines mellow art-pop, alt-R&B, and trip-hop melodies over innovative sample-based hip-hop production. With previous singles like “Light Shines Down”, Aroly has received critical acclaim from outlets such as Pigeons and Planes, The Fader, and BBC Radio 1. Listen to the EP on Spotify.
Aroly reflects on the EP as a celebration of love and creativity during turbulent times:
“Everything in the world seems so insane to me right now, and I wanted to make a cute colorful animation to go with a sweet little song to calm my nervous system a bit. I think love is eternal. It shifts and changes form, but true, unconditional love is a song on eternal repeat, just on varying frequencies.”
As one half of the acclaimed duo Audego, Aroly has collaborated with renowned acts like Funkstörung, Coy Haste (Caribou), Pasobionic, and Joelistics, solidifying her reputation as an innovative force in contemporary music.“Stay A While” and the Bluetooth Breakdown EP are now streaming on all major platforms.
